The UK is bracing for a week’s worth of snowfall in February, according to the latest maps from WX Charts, which uses Met Desk data. The weather system could soon blanket most of the country with snow.
On February 10, areas such as the south coast, north west and Midlands, including cities like Southampton, London, Birmingham and Manchester, are at risk of a dusting. By February 11 and February 12, snow is expected across the Midlands, Yorkshire, North West and North East.
That same week, on February 13, Birmingham and London could see up to 2cm of snow. Over Valentine’s Day weekend (February 14) and into February 15, snow depth maps reveal the extent of the wintry deluge, with some areas forecast to receive up to 11 inches, reports Birmingham Live.
The BBC Weather team has also provided a forecast spanning Monday 17 February to Sunday 2 March, stating: “Periods of wet and windy weather. That risk of colder weather could remain into the second half of February, but the more probable outcome is for high pressure to weaken and shift farther south, opening the door wider to low pressure systems from the west.”
They added: “This should mean periodically wet and windy conditions with some heavy rain at times. It should become a bit milder as well, so chances of snow should diminish aside from some wintry showers in brief colder shots in between weather systems.
“With a strong jet stream there will be a risk of some intense low pressure systems arriving, so there will be the possibility of a couple or so impactful or disruptive bouts of strong winds and heavy precipitation.”
“The same sort of pattern will most probably continue into early March but we will still need to look for early signs of any switch to a colder regime.”
