An Northern Ireland man who died following a half marathon in Glasgow has been named as Aaron Jordan Johnston.

The 24-year-old from Enniskillen in Co Fermanagh fell ill on Glasgow Green on Sunday morning after completing the Glasgow Half Marathon.

He was rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary but died a short time after arriving.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Emergency services attended following a report of a 24-year-old man having taken unwell at Glasgow Green around 11.15am on Sunday, 2 February, 2025.

“The man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he died a short time later.

“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

In a death notice Aaron was described as the “beloved son of Niall and Joy beloved brother of Hayley, Adam and Jessica. Devoted grandson of Charlie and Louise Patterson and Shirley (the late Ivor Johnston).”

“Aaron will be lovingly remembered by his family and all the family Circle.”

The family have also requested family flowers only and said donations in lieu of flowers should be made payable to Chest, Heart and Stroke NI.

The family business, Ashwood Garden Centre, paid tribute to Aaron on social media.

“We are completely heartbroken that our precious Aaron Johnston, Son of Niall and Joy and brother to Hayley, Adam and Jessica died suddenly yesterday. Words cannot describe what we are going through now.

“The Garden Centre and Coffee shop will be closed until further notice.”
