Luke Humphries has admitted that he’s eager to become the first darts player to win £2million in ranking prize money after he beat Jonny Clayton to win the World Masters on Sunday.
The 29-year-old had gone into the competition hoping to bounce back after failing to win the World Darts Championship at the start of the month.
And Humphries delivered on Sunday, with the world No 1 beating Clayton 6-5 in Milton Keynes.
The Leeds United superfan is now closing in on becoming the first player to earn £2m in ranking prize money, with victory at the upcoming UK Open set to see him cross the line.

And though he’s fully aware that the sum will increase over time, as darts continues to grow in popularity, Humphries is eager to etch his name into the history books.
Speaking to SportsBoom, he said: “I better win the UK Open now hadn’t I.
“It obviously would be really nice to do that.
“It’s not like a goal that you’re looking at and thinking I need to do that.

“The prize money in the world of darts is just going to go up and up over the next few years.
“Soon it will be a common thing, so someone is going to reach £2m whether I do it or not.
“But I’d like to be the first one to do it.”
While Humphries is the best player on the planet, it’s Luke Littler who has been widely credited with being the biggest influence of the sport.
As a result, the new World Masters champion could be forgiven for feeling aggrieved that he doesn’t always hog the spotlight.
But not Humphries, with the 29-year-old having only positive things to say about his rival.
“I mean his name is always going to be in the headlines, because he [Luke Littler] is absolutely incredible. So, for me, it doesn’t bother me,” he continued.
