After American President Donald Trump announced he will implement a 25 per cent tariff on Canadian products going to the United States, Canada is returning the favour.

On Monday, a list of U.S. products that Canada would impose tariffs on was released. The new rule will take effect on Tuesday, with the federal government imposing 25 per cent tariffs on $30 billion in goods.

“These countermeasures are effective immediately and will remain in place until the U.S. eliminates its tariffs against Canada. Canada’s countermeasures do not apply to U.S. goods that are in transit to Canada on the day on which they come into force,” the government said in a news release.

Here is the full list of U.S. products that Canada is imposing the tariff on:

  • Live poultry, that is to say, fowls of the species Gallus domesticus, ducks, geese, turkeys and guinea fowls.
  • Meat and edible offal, of the poultry of heading 01.05, fresh, chilled or frozen.
