The Canadiens announced Saturday that they have called up forward Owen Beck and defenceman Logan Mailloux from the AHL’s Laval Rocket.
The Canadiens flew to Anaheim on Friday afternoon, while Beck and Mailloux both played for the Rocket in Friday night’s 3-1 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack at Place Bell. Beck scored the first goal for the Rocket and goalie Cayden Primeau was named the first star after stopping 30 of the 31 shots he faced. Primeau improved his record with the Rocket to 8-0-0 since being sent down by the Canadiens on Dec. 12 to go along with a 1.73 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage.
The Canadiens practised Saturday in Ahaheim ahead of Sunday’s game against the Ducks (4 p.m., TSN2, RDS). Forward Jake Evans and defencemen Alexandre Carrier and David Savard did not take part in the practice, taking a therapy day instead.
The Canadiens are on a four-game losing streak (0-3-1), matching their second-longest slump of the season. They also had one six-game losing streak (0-5-1). Heading into Saturday’s games, the Canadiens were four points out of a wild-card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
In 41 games with the Rocket this season, Beck has 11-16-27 totals and a plus-11 differential. Mailloux has 9-13-22 totals and a plus-3 in 36 games.
Beck was called up by the Canadiens for two games last month and failed to register a point while averaging only 7:35 of ice time. Mailloux played five games early this season with the Canadiens, posting 1-2-3 totals.
The Canadiens sent forward Rafaël Harvey-Pinard back to Laval on Friday and he played only one game with the team. Harvey-Pinard had two assists for Laval in Friday’s win over Hartford, giving him 4-9-13 totals in 25 games with the Rocket.
