Police searching for missing twins Eliza and Henrietta Huszti say they have recovered a body. The two sisters were last seen on January 7 at 2.12am in Market Street at Victoria Bridge, Aberdeen.

Speaking on Friday, Police Scotland said: “We were made aware of the body of a person seen in the River Dee near Queen Elizabeth Bridge in Aberdeen around 07:55 on Friday. The body has been recovered from the water and enquiries are ongoing.”

The two sisters, who were part of a set of triplets, moved to Scotland from Hungary about 10 years ago. The were sociable but often preferred to stay at home.

Their brother Jozsef said the women appeared “fine” in the days before they vanished. Police have been carrying out the searches under a missing persons inquiry and not a criminal investigation.

The two were seen at the bridge where they were last seen the day before their disappearance. They were seen at Victoria Bridge at about 2.50pm on January 6 where they spent five minutes at the footpath and Victoria Bridge.

A day later a text was sent from Henrietta’s mobile phone to their landlady at 2.12am from the area of Victoria Bridge saying they would not be returning to the flat. Police said the phone was then disconnected from the network.

The next day their belongings were found at the flat and the landlady contacted police. They were last seen on January 7 crossing the bridge and going onto a footpath towards Aberdeen Boat Club.

Superintendent David Howieson previously said a theory was they had “entered the water for reasons unknown”.
