An outage at Barclays has caused customers to be unable to access their accounts.
A major system issue with Barclays online banking system has left many locked out of their bank accounts, with it being payday for many.
On its website, the bank has told app and internet banking users: “We’re sorry, we’re having some issues with our systems and you may have trouble using some features in our app. We’re urgently working to fix this.”
The issue is also extending to messaging systems and telephone banking, which are also down.
“We’re sorry, we’re having some problems helping you over the phone right now – we’re urgently working to fix this,” the bank states.
As a result Barclays account holders cannot make any payments. In a similar message, the bank said: “We’re sorry, customers are having issues with payments right now – we’re working to fix this.”
On X, the bank issued a statement saying customers can still “use cards and cash machines as normal.”
Barclays have thanked customers for “bearing with us”, but have not given an indication when people will be able to access their account or use telephone and internet services again.
