The PSNI have said four people were taken to hospital following a multi-vehicle crash at major Belfast motorway on Friday.

The M2 in Belfast has now re-opened following a collision close to Duncrue Street shortly after 1:40pm.

Inspector McCartney said: “Police received and responded to a report of a collision in the area shortly before 1.30pm today, Friday 31st January.

“Colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene.

“Four people were taken to hospital for medical treatment for injuries which at this stage, are not believed to be life threatening.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the collision, and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time, and may have captured any dash cam or mobile phone footage, to contact us via 101, and quote reference number 772 of 31/01/25.”

A PSNI spokesperson added that “both lanes of the M2 Southbound at its Fortwilliam junction are now fully reopened following an earlier road traffic collision involving a number of vehicles”.

Earlier a spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) had said three people were hospitalised.

In a statement NIAS said they received a 999 call at 13:27 on Friday following reports of an RTC in the M2 area, Belfast.

“NIAS despatched an Ambulance Officer, two Rapid Response Paramedics, and two emergency Ambulances to the incident,” added the spokesperson.

“Three people were taken to Royal Victoria Hospital by Ambulance.”
