Beloved bar, restaurant and off-licence the Stables isn’t horsing around when it comes to hospitality.

A spot that’s attained legendary status among Lurgan socialites over the decades, this week I called in for my first visit.

Established in 1972, on the grounds of a former hitching post (hence the moniker), the Stables really does have it all. Currently in the caring hands of the McGeown clan, the pub is at the heart of the community and looks handsome thanks to recent renovations.

Over the last few months, the Stables’ food menu has caused something of a stir online, and deservedly so, as their nosebag is first-class.

The loaded fries are delicious

Featuring classic staples and American-style favourites such as loaded fries and sharing platters, if you like your grub you should definitely make a pilgrimage to this pub. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

All the usual suspects could be found behind the bar and they’ve also got a solid range of cocktails.

There’s lots going on in the pub throughout the week from sports screenings to gigs and tribute acts — it’s a real crowd pleaser.

Service was great during my stay and staff made sure everyone was looked after despite the herds of people.

This definitely won’t be my last visit.
