Former Bristol Rovers loanee Michael Forbes has joined League Two side Colchester United on loan for the remainder of the season, three weeks after he returned to West Ham United.
The 20-year-old centre-back made just 12 appearances for Rovers in the first half of the campaign but was starting to get a run of games with starts against Barnsley in the FA Cup, Birmingham City and Wrexham.
However, against Wrexham the Northern Irishman suffered a hamstring injury which effectively ended his loan spell at the Gas.
West Ham’s official confirmation said: “After suffering a hamstring injury in their 1-1 draw with Wrexham in December, it was mutually agreed that Forbes would return to Rush Green to continue his rehabilitation with the club’s medical team.
“Now approaching full fitness, Forbes will continue his development at Colchester United under the guidance of head coach Danny Cowley.”
Colchester currently sit in 15th place in League Two, comfortably in midtable with a 13 point advantage over the relegation zone while being 11 points off the play-off positions.
