The exact date heavy snow could reach the UK has been revealed, and it’s only a few days away. Whilst many are still recovering from Storm Eowyn and Herminia, which caused mass flooding in Somerset and power cuts in Cornwall and Devon, it seems sub-zero temperatures and snow are making their way to the UK this February.

Weather maps show the vast majority of the UK will be affected by snow on February 11, with around 5cm an hour falling in some areas. However, the Scottish Highlands is predicted to have up to 21 centimetres of snow, and a large stretch of the north – from Manchester up to Edinburgh – is predicted to see up to 10 centimetres of snow.

At the same time, large parts of England as well as the northwest of Wales are set to see several millimetres of rain per hour. While most of the UK is set to see snow and rain, the south west is one of few regions likely to remain unaffected from the weather, although that could change as the date approaches.

Northern Ireland is also going to miss the snowy conditions according to weather maps. The Met Office said: “Periods of wet weather are likely to affect northern parts of the UK at times, particularly early in this period. Some heavy rain is possible and this is likely to be accompanied by spells of strong winds.

“South of this, across the rest of the UK, it is likely to be more settled and whilst some rain can’t be ruled out at times, there is likely to be plenty of dry weather through this period.

“Winds will be lighter and this will bring the risk of overnight frost and fog. Overall, temperatures will be close to normal for most, but it is likely to be mild at times in the north. Brief colder spells are likely in between weather systems though.”
