A brand new convention is coming to Bristol’s Ashton Gate in March, featuring a line-up of celebrities from franchises such as Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Doctor Who and Star Wars, among others.

Among the line-up for the all new Bristol Comic Con, is none other than Sir Tony Robinson who, among an expansive career, is known for playing Baldrick in BBC sitcom Blackadder. Red Dwarf’s Hattie Hayridge, who played the female version of Holly in the third to the fifth series of Red Dwarf, will also be in attendance.

Bristol Comic Con is set to take place at Ashton Gate on Sunday, March 9, and promises an exciting day for sci-fi fans and collectors. The day will include free photo opportunities, with sci-fi displays and props including an E.T. bike, Back to the Future DeLorean, and a huge array of traders offering collectibles.

There will also be plenty of ‘out of this world’ costumes, guests from Star Wars, and cosplayers dressing up in character. Visitors are also invited to dress up, with prizes on offer for the best cosplay outfits on the day.

Tickets start from £5, with the event running from 10am-4pm. Organiser George Burrows, who was born in Bristol and grew up in Weston-super-Mare, has been keen to stage a Comic Con here in the city with his company, Creed Conventions, for some time.

He said: “The company has been around since 2016, and since it has grown all across the country, and it was the right time to bring it to my home in Bristol. It’s been quite the journey, in the US – Conventions are much larger affairs but here in the UK they are picking up.

“I aim to focus on the family feel and offerings for collectors. I’ve kept prices low for this year, so people can have a really fun day whilst it’s not costing to much, I want to see everyone enjoy the event.”
