Steven Gerrard has reportedly resigned as manager of Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq after 18 difficult months in charge.
The former Liverpool legend has stepped down with his team sitting 12th in the table, just five points clear of the relegation zone.
The decision comes after Al-Ettifaq’s recent draw against Al-Wehda, with the club continuing to struggle despite efforts to turn their fortunes around.
According to Saudi newspaper Al-Youm, Gerrard has “requested to leave” due to “poor performances”.

In November, the club made several staff changes in an attempt to improve results.
Dean Holden was brought in as assistant manager, while former Rangers sporting director Mark Allen was dismissed.
Michael Beale also joined the setup as Gerrard’s number two, reuniting the pair who had previously worked together.
Despite these changes to the coaching staff, the team’s performances have failed to improve.
Reports suggest Gerrard had considered leaving last summer but was convinced to stay by club management.
In what may have been his final press conference at the club, Gerrard expressed clear frustration with the team’s performance.
“I am not satisfied with the players’ performance and level,” he stated.
“I see the draw as losing two important points. I take responsibility for the result of the match, including missed opportunities and the drop in performance.”
He acknowledged the club’s support, adding: “The management of Ettifaq club has provided everything the team needs in terms of support and transfers. Injuries and the absence of key players have negatively affected performance.”
A formal request for Gerrard’s departure has been submitted to the Financial Sustainability Committee for the Pro League.
The compensation agreement between Gerrard and Al-Ettifaq is still pending approval.
The club is now studying his decision to leave and considering potential replacements.
Gerrard began his managerial career in Liverpool’s academy following his retirement as a player in 2016.
He then took charge of Rangers, leading the Scottish club to a league title.
