The thought of ageing might not be a pleasant one, with the emergence of fine lines and grey hairs being an unwelcome reminder of the passing years.
However, according to neuroscientist Robert Love, we could be unwittingly accelerating our own ageing process. He has pinpointed five common foods that should be avoided for those looking to slow down the ticking clock.
In a revealing TikTok video where he dispensed health tips, Robert explained: “Avoid these five foods because they are increasing wrinkles and accelerating ageing.
“Food number one are foods high in sugar. Foods high in sugar increase something called inflammation. Inflammation is one of the primary causes of ageing.
“Number two, foods high in sugar spike your insulin, spike your blood glucose, and that over time can increase risk of Type 2 diabetes, and Type 2 diabetes also increases inflammation and that can make your skin look older.
“Food number two are the processed meats like hotdogs. These meats can have preservatives in them and lots of salts in them. These can be dehydrating.”
He added: “Food number three, these might be the worst, these are fried foods. So fried foods are often fried in inflammatory oils and, when we eat fried foods, this increases something called AGEs (advanced glycation end products). These are very inflammatory.”
Robert also claims sodas aren’t beneficial for your skin, mainly on account of the high sugar content and lack of fibre, which may result in increased inflammation. The professional also highlights that alcohol consumption can impact brain function and interrupt sleep patterns, potentially causing the development of wrinkles.
Furthermore, it has a dehydrating effect and can cause inflammation, adding to skin concerns. The clip has attracted over 4,000 views and prompted numerous responses.
