WHSmith shops at Bristol Airport are currently closed as an investigation takes place into a potential security breach. It is reported that an employee has failed to follow the procedure for airside pass applications.
As a result, all of the shop staff have had their passes suspended. Bristol Airport said the matter is being taken “very seriously” while WHSmith supports the airport with the investigation.
A Bristol Airport spokesperson said: “Following a staff member complaint about a potential issue with the formal procedure for airside pass applications not being followed correctly by WHSmith, we immediately suspended all WHSmith’s staff passes as a precaution while we fully investigate.
“We take the safety and security of staff and passengers at Bristol Airport very seriously, which is why we’ve taken this action with the retailer.”
A WHSmith spokesperson added: “Following concerns of a colleague not following airport procedures, we are currently working with our longstanding partner – Bristol airport – to support their enquiries. We are taking the matter very seriously and our airside stores are temporarily closed as a precautionary measure.
“We would encourage all passengers to visit our landside store ahead of passing through security. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
