Fans of BBC’s Silent Witness were split on their opinions about a recent episode of the beloved crime drama as some criticised it for being too “far-fetched”.

Shortly after the episode aired, viewers flocked to the social media site X – previously known as Twitter – to share their immediate reactions to the intense scenarios faced by Emilia Fox’s character, Dr. Nikki Alexander.

The episode saw Nikki in a dire situation while flying back from Mumbai, India, when a passenger became seriously unwell, leading to a mid-flight crisis. With her patient-care experience years behind her and clear anxiety, Nikki was nonetheless thrust into action as the man started coughing up blood.

It was initially suspected to be due to a severe case of food poisoning but the plot took a dark twist as circumstances forced an unexpected landing, deviating from the planned route to Azerbaijan. Only upon returning to the UK did everyone realise they had been sharing the plane with a murderer.

Despite providing a hefty dose of suspense and excitement, this storyline didn’t capture the imagination of all fans, with some dismissing the narrative as simply “far-fetched”, reports the Mirror.

Silent Witness viewers were divided over the latest episode, with some taking to social media to share their thoughts. One person commented: “Just when you think Silent Witness was more grounded this season.”

Another fan added: “That was a ridiculous storyline for Silent Witness this week. I loved it,” while a third said: “God this show was worth the year long wait, what an episode #silentwitness.”

However, a noticeable error caught the attention of some fans right from the start of the show. Nikki Alexander was in a scene at the airport where she made a speakerphone call.

Talking to her fiance, Jack Hodgson (played by David Caves), she mentioned: “No-one snored, thank goodness! And they asked lots of follow-ups. I even managed the intro in Hindi.”

Jack’s reply to her was enthusiastic: “Look at you! Jet-setting multilingual expert on immunohistochemical methods to estimate time since death! You deserve all the free champagne you get.”

The pair continued chatting about breakfast plans, unaware that an eavesdropping passenger would later become critically sick on the flight.

An annoyed viewer pointed out Nikki’s faux pas, posting: “Nicky has gone down in my estimation having a personal call on speakerphone #silentwitness,” with another concurring: “Nooooo! ! Don’t be the annoying person who puts their mobile on speaker whilst in public. #silentwitness”.

One individual cautioned: “Get your phone off speaker. Rude. #SilentWitness,” while another added a sarcastic tone to the conversation, remarking: “#SilentWitness love it when people have conversations on loud speaker in public places.”

Silent Witness will air this evening on BBC One from 9pm and can be streamed via iPlayer.
