A mum has shared how her daughter’s unique name ended up giving them the VIP treatment during a recent flight, proving that the right name can have its advantages.
Deciding on what your child will be called is no easy task, with parents pondering long-term implications and aiming while also trying to opt for more unusual names. While there’s a risk of these rare names to backfire on the child in questions, it can sometimes work in favour for both the child and their parents.
This was the case for American astronaut Kellie Gerardi, who in 2023 became the 90th woman to travel to space. She took to TikTok to share an endearing occurrence with her daughter Delta, recounting that her daughter’s unusual name garnered them special treatment while travelling to Disney World in Florida.
“When people make fun of the name Delta but you get treated like royalty at the airport and everyone gives you wings,” mum Kellie captioned the clip.
The footage features snippets of Kellie and Delta navigating the airport en route to their Delta Airlines flight. As they revelled in their journey, the smiling pair received premium treatment—sky priority check-in included—clearly enjoying every second.
As Kellie filmed her daughter Delta on board the plane, she captured her daughter showing of her a wings pin that the crew had given to her– a tradition for young flyers.
People flocked to the comments to express their delight, many sharing tales of their own unique names. “Also named Delta, and yes,” quipped one user with a smiley face icon. Another revealed: “I named my kid Jedi our last name is Knight I have dreams for this child lol.”
One parent related, saying: “I love her name. My Atlas is a star when we travel too,” while someone else wrote: “I feel like Delta would be the name of a bada$$ female Blue Angels pilot or something. I don’t understand the hate. It’s a strong name! “
Another commenter joked: “I know the southwest flight crew would be like ‘well hello…delta.'”
Yet some were perplexed by the criticism of the name as individual wrote: “Confused because never seen anyone hate on delta in Australia it’s a common name.”
