Staying on top of the latest fashion trends can be quite a task, with a plethora of clothing options available on the high street. Marks and Spencer is one such destination where you can find the latest styles and we’ve got insights into the 2025 trends from an M&S fashion guru.

Lisa Illis, the head of womenswear design at Marks and Spencer, has shared with us three key trends to watch out for in 2025, whether you’re looking to revamp your winter collection or just keen to stay ahead of the fashion curve.

To help you get a jumpstart on these trends, we have handpicked some Marks and Spencer’s items that perfectly align with the styles for the new year. You can explore the full range of Marks and Spencer’s clothing here.

Denim

Lisa Illis remarked: “Denim has become a seasonless trend and comprises some of the most versatile and transitional pieces in our day-to-day wardrobes. This spring, we continue to celebrate bestselling jean styles from 2024, from the Carrot to the Horseshoe and Palazzo, as well as introducing new styles such as the Seamless Jean”, reports the Liverpool Echo.

She added: “Following the success of this style within our Sienna Miller collection, we’ll be introducing a barrel style into our main denim offering. In addition to jeans, we also offer some great denim style options like the Denim Mini Shirt Dress and fitted Denim Jacket, which can be incorporated into any Spring wardrobe and take you into Summer, too.”

Accessories and Shoes

Accessories are the perfect way to give your outfit a fresh and stylish twist without breaking the bank, and this season’s key trends are not to be missed.

Lisa said: “In footwear, loafers have long been considered a wardrobe staple but right now they are most certainly having a moment. Look out for interesting colours, prints and fabrics from suede and budget friendly faux suede to animal print and faux shearling, which have been particularly popular with our customers.”

She also advised on handbags: “As for bags, supersize your trusty tote because bigger is better this season. Instead of swapping out for something smaller in the evening, these styles will take you from day to night and from tactile suede to shiny metallics; they’ll work every occasion possible.”

One standout item is the Pure Cotton Nature Canvas Tote Bag, retailing at £15 in a striking red hue, which boasts an impressive 4.8 out of 5 rating on the Marks and Spencer website. Shoppers have praised the bag as a ‘classic strong canvas bag’ that’s ‘eye-catching’.

Colour trends

Regarding colour trends, Lisa shared that ‘Mocha Mousse’ has been crowned the Pantone Colour of the year, and we should brace ourselves for a wave of tonal and neutral dressing. “From warm cream right through to deep chocolates. You can also expect to see colour drenching make its mark.”

Lisa explained that colour drenching involves wearing the same colour across different pieces of your ensemble, such as pairing a blue jumper with blue jeans. She went on to say: “Key colours include cherry reds, lemon yellow, peppermint green and lilacs.

“If you’re feeling confident, a top to toe look can be a real statement but dipping into a colour trend is also easily achieved with accessory updates or even a bright injection through your knitwear.” For those looking for a minimal yet chic look, the Marks and Spencer Ribbed Polo Neck Fitted Top in a ‘mocha mix’ colour scheme could be just the ticket. Paired with jeans, it’s a stylish choice available for £22.50.

If you’re after a bargain, Nobody’s Child has reduced the price of their Green Open Collar Knitted Jumper from £69 to just £41. This olive green dress is reportedly ‘selling fast’ online and would look stunning teamed with thick winter tights and boots.
