Spencer Matthews has opened up about his decision to quit drinking, attributing the change to his wife Vogue Williams’ growing disinterest in his behaviour.
The ex-reality TV personality, who recently achieved a world record by completing 30 marathons in 30 days across Jordan, was once notorious for his “antics” in London’s nightlife, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Having joined Made in Chelsea at 19, Spencer recounted his days of constant partying and admitted that, with Vogue expecting their first child, Theodore, now six, he recognised the need to abandon his party-hard lifestyle. He is now at the helm of CleanCo, an alcohol-free spirit brand, which is set to be stocked in 700 Greene King pubs across the UK.
In a candid interview with the Daily Mail, Spencer revealed that it was the look of disappointment in Vogue’s eyes that spurred him to reform. He confessed: “‘She never gave me any ultimatum or anything but I could see in her eyes that she was getting bored of who I was becoming.”
He reflected on the potential consequences of his actions, saying: “I think that when you start to resent your partner in that way, even if there is not a clear discussion about it, then you are on dangerous territory,” reports Dublin Live.
Spencer also acknowledged the personal benefits of sobriety, stating: “I believe I would have lost everything. She would have left me, because my drinking was that bad. But while it started off being for Vogue, I then got addicted to the feeling of sobriety, if that makes sense.”
Spencer Matthews has revealed a new direction in his podcasting career, following his transformative experience in the Jordanian desert. Having recently stepped away from his self-titled podcast with his wife, as well as ending his Six Degrees podcast with Jamie Laing and Big Fish, Spencer is now focusing on a more meaningful project.
The father-of-three has launched a new podcast series called Untapped, a weekly hour-long show that will explore human potential with extraordinary guests. This new venture aligns with Spencer’s interests and passions, and he’s excited to share it with his audience.
Spencer explained: “My experience running through the Jordanian desert was a transformative and meaningful time in my life during which I had a moment of clear realisation.”
“I wanted to change the nature of the content I create to align more with my interests and passions.”
“Untapped is the realisation of this ambition and I would love you to join me in this new chapter which promises to be fun, uplifting, motivational and even inspirational at times as we hear from the greatest athletes, scientists, and thinkers in the world to truly discover what potential we all have within us.”
The first episode of Untapped is set to air on January 27.
