Maltesers are a popular confectionery brand consisting of small, round, lightweight chocolate-covered malted milk balls.

The chocolate’s center is made from a malt and milk mixture, which is aerated to create a crunchy, honeycomb-like texture. Meanwhile, the outer coating is smooth milk chocolate.

It’s a combination Brits have known and loved ever since 1937, when the product was created by Forrest Mars Sr. But over the years, Mars has come up with different ways to mix the product up.

One of them, launched recently, is honeycomb-flavoured Maltesers. They sound delicious to us – but some have taken issue with the product.

When the New Foods UK page posted about the confectionary, which can be found in B&M Stores, people were a bit confused. One commenter asked: “Isn’t that what Maltesers are?”

Another questioned: “as opposed to…? “. A third person humorously pondered: “What next, honeycomb Crunchie?” And a fourth queried: “I thought that’s what Maltesers were?”

Following the confusion, one responder cleared things up. They explained: “Guys.. “malt” easers.. they’re malted milk flavour, this is honeycomb centre, that’s two different flavours”.

A further commenter chimed in: “The inside of Maltesers is still honeycomb, just malt flavoured honeycomb”, prompting New Foods UK to respond: “When you try them you will taste the difference straight away.”

A staggering 187 million Maltesers are sold yearly in the UK, which works out to “six products every second”. So even if people aren’t keen on this new flavour, we doubt it’s going to make much difference!
