Fans of The Masked Singer are sure they’ve cracked the code behind Pufferfish’s real identity.
The much-loved ITV show recently returned with its latest series, flaunting a cast of new celebrities veiled in extravagant attire and concealed by masks.
This season’s roster features characters like Bush, Dressed Crab, Bear, Kingfisher, Pegasus, Pufferfish, Snail, Spag Bol, Tattoo, Teeth, Toad In The Hole, and Wolf. Davina McCall, Maya Jama, Mo Gilligan, and Jonathan Ross serve as judges while Joel Dommett charmingly takes on the hosting duties.
So far in the unveiling, Toad In The Hole has been revealed as Macy Gray, Pegasus was found to be Prue Leith, Spag Bol turned out to be Kate Garraway, and Tattoo was exposed as Carol Decker just last week.
Now, the audience strongly believes they’ve figured out Pufferfish’s concealed identity as an EastEnders star. Twitter, now X, has been abuzz with speculation, where fans believe that it could be Shona McGarty, famously known for her portrayal of Whitney Dean on BBC One’s iconic soap from 2008 until 2024, reports the Mirror.
Simultaneously, there are those who suggest Jacqueline Jossa, who plays Lauren Branning on EastEnders, could be the one behind the mask.
Comments on the social media platform include: “I reckon Pufferfish is Shona McGarty from Eastenders. #TheMaskedSinger”, another user confidently stated: “Going Whitney from Eastenders as Pufferfish #themaskedsingeruk #TheMaskedSinger”, someone else declared: “Whitney Dean From eastenders #maskedsingeruk #maskedsinger”, while yet another chimed in: “I reckon Pufferfish is Shona McGarty from Eastenders #TheMaskedSinger.”
Elsewhere, one viewer tweeted: “I think Pufferfish is Jacqueline Jossa #TheMaskedSinger”, while another echoed the sentiment, writing: “Think pufferfish might be Jacqueline Jossa #TheMaskedSinger”. Meanwhile, a third chimed in with: “WAIT! Pufferfish could be Jacqueline Jossa! ! #TheMaskedSinger.”
Away from EastEnders, some viewers also think Pufferfish could be Girls Aloud legend Nadine Coyle, which would follow in the footsteps of her bandmate Nicola Roberts who won the first series of The Masked Singer in 2020 as Queen Bee. Meanwhile, fellow bandmate Kimberly Walsh was unveiled as Odd Socks on spin-off The Masked Dancer in 2022.
One person said: “Pufferfish – nadine girls aloud ? #TheMaskedSinger”, a different account wrote: “Nadine Coyle as Pufferfish #themaskedsinger” while another added: “Pufferfish could be Nadine Coyle #TheMaskedSinger.”
On Saturday night’s episode, which aired on 25 January, Bear, Bush, Dressed Crab, Kingfisher, Pufferfish, Snail, Teeth and Wolf battled it out on stage.
The Masked Singer airs on Saturdays at 7pm on ITV1, ITV X & STV.
