Darragh Ennis, also known as ‘The Menace’ on The Chase, faced a historic loss during Thursday’s episode (January 23). In this instalment of the ITV quiz show, four contestants challenged Darragh, but only one was eliminated during the head-to-head rounds.

This left three competitors—Jake, Laura, and Frank—in the final chase, playing for a staggering £75,000. They set a formidable target of 22 points, which had Darragh worried about his ability to catch up.

His concerns were justified as he stumbled early on, giving incorrect answers that put him at a disadvantage. The 44-year-old chaser, who previously appeared on the show as a contestant, made several errors in the final chase, resulting in an inability to reach the team’s score.

At the conclusion of the episode, Darragh admitted: “I said it was going to be very difficult and realistically, 23 or 24 is about as much as we can catch in two minutes.”

He acknowledged his early mistake, saying: “I got one wrong very early and I started making a few little mistakes trying to go quick. But you set a high target, I wasn’t able to match it. Well done, you deserve the money”, reports the Express.

The episode began with contestant Jake, a software designer, who secured five correct answers in his cash builder round and decided to play for the £4,000 he earned.

The 42 year old demonstrated his impressive knowledge, becoming the first contestant to make it to the final chase. Laura, a help desk supervisor from Stockport, was next to try and add to the prize pot.

Like her teammate, she opted for the middle offer of £5,000 before joining Jake in the final chase. The third contestant to face Darragh was Leila, a primary school teacher from Cardiff.

Unfortunately, the 35-year-old only managed to answer two questions correctly in the cash builder and was subsequently caught by Darragh. This left Frank with the task of adding as much as possible to the prize pot.

And he certainly delivered. The 69-year-old retired electrical technician couldn’t resist Darragh’s high offer and played for a staggering £66,000.

He put on an incredible performance in the head-to-head, making it through to the final chase and bringing the team’s total to a massive £75,000. After winning the game, each member of the trio walked away with £25,000.
