A driver was caught doing almost double the speed limit through Bristol as Met Office forecasters warn of widespread disruption during Storm Eowyn. A total of 20 motorists were caught speeding on Gypsy Patch Lane as the region is hit with rain and ice weather warnings.
The speeding drivers have forced local residents to desperately ask for the police to intervene, to reduce the risk to other road users. In just 30 minutes, police caught 20 drivers speeding in the area.
One of the speeding drivers was spotted going 59mph in a 30mph zone, almost double the speed limit, on wet roads in South Gloucestershire. The “selfish and reckless” driver was caught by police as they monitored the area.
Avon and Somerset Police Roads Enforcement Team has said: “‘Education through Enforcement’ at the request of residents on the B4057 Gypsy Patch Lane, South Glos.
“This is a 30mph limit & during 30 mins in cold & wet conditions 20 drivers were detected well in excess of the limit – 59 mph is selfish & reckless! #Fatal5”.
The Met Office has a number of weather warnings in place for the South West as Storm Eowyn continues to batter the UK. Forecasters have warned of winds up to 70mph, heavy downpours which may cause flooding and low temperatures causing icy patches on roads and footpaths.
Bristol is set to see a disruptive weekend as three weather warnings are due to come into effect from tomorrow (January 25). Follow our live blog here for the latest weather updates.
