BBC Winterwatch viewers were left blushing after an innuendo-laden exchange between presenters Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan during Thursday evening’s show.
The pair’s playful banter about woodcocks and “FOMO” during the third instalment of this year’s series sparked a flurry of reactions on social media.
The cheeky exchange took place as the presenters were broadcasting live from Dorset Nature Reserve, whilst discussing their co-presenter Iolo Williams’ mission to get his hands on the special bird species.
Michaela Strachan kicked off the exchange by commenting on Iolo Williams’ woodcock pursuit, saying: “Exciting isn’t it, he could have a woodcock in his hand.”
She then teased Packham: “I bet you’ve got FOMO over that. You’d love to have a woodcock in your hand.”
When Packham appeared puzzled, Strachan explained: “Fear of missing out. It’s what all the young people say. I’m down with the young people. So, yeah, you’ve got super FOMO over that.”
The pair were discussing how jealous Packham was of Iolo

The banter reached its peak when Packham quipped back: “I’ll FOMO all over you in a minute.”
Viewers quickly took to X to comment on what some dubbed the “rudest chat ever” on the wildlife programme.
One user wrote: “Pure filth. #winterwatch @BBCSpringwatch.”
“Rudest chat so far! #Winterwatch,” another posted, adding a raised eyebrow wink face emoji.

A third viewer commented: “Looks like Chris and Michaela have started early #woodcock #winterwatch.”
Despite the innuendo-filled banter, other viewers praised the episode’s content, with one saying: “Really enjoyed #Winterwatch, especially the snipe and bees.”
Another added: “I can’t get enough of this programme! Chris, Michaela and Iolo are the best presenters going!
The penultimate episode of this year’s Winterwatch has left viewers wanting more, with only one final instalment remaining.
The comment comes after Packham and Strachan took a look at the way Waxwing birds eat up to 1,000 red berries a day, leaving the naturist to delve deeper into their anatomy – and issues a cheeky demonstration.
Taking viewers for a more in-depth look, Packham and Strachan walked over to the models where he continued: “We have some models over here and we can start looking at the Waxwing.

“Let me withdraw the specialised tongue of the Waxwing here and you can see that coming out and it does as it is swallowing a berry.
“So the hyoid bone will be at the base of the tongue, it pushes it out here and you have this structure at the front here, called the paraglossum.
Fans of the series were left stunned with the innuendo and the constant reference to the bird’s “tongue action”.
