A police officer has been injured during an arrest at Belfast International Airport.

The arrest occurred at the airport on Thursday when a man, aged in his 30s, ran off prior to a stop and search.

While attempting to arrest the individual, a police officer was injured.

The man was arrested on suspicion of several crimes including drug-related offences and is currently in police custody.

A spokesman from the PSNI said: “Police arrested a man earlier today, 23 January, at Belfast International Airport.

“When stopped for search purposes, the man made off. When apprehending the defendant, a police officer sustained an injury.

“The man, aged in his 30s, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including drugs-related offences, and remains in police custody at this time.”
