As we face the long stretch of winter weeks, the thought of a sunny holiday seems like a far-off dream. If you’re feeling the cold, a sun-soaked getaway could be just what you need.
Many opt for the Canary Islands for some winter sun, while others head to Dubai for a touch of luxury. For those willing to travel further, popular destinations include South-East Asia and the Caribbean.
However, there’s another winter sun destination that’s ideal for topping up your Vitamin D levels, and it’s just a few hours from the UK. Direct flights are available to the Red Sea resort of Hurghada, Egypt, from Bristol, as well as major airports in London, Manchester and Birmingham.

Known for its immaculate white beaches that could give the Maldives a run for their money and crystal clear waters, Hurghada is quicker to reach than the Middle East, perfect for a week-long break.
In February, temperatures can soar to a scorching 25C. With nine hours of sunshine a day, it’s sure to bring a smile to your face, reports the Manchester Evening News.
While evenings can get a bit chilly, it’s an excellent time to visit if you want to avoid the scorching summer heat. The temperatures are perfect for exploring all that Hurghada has to offer.
A must-visit for beach enthusiasts is Giftun Island, one of the Red Sea’s ‘hidden gems’. It’s an hour-long boat ride from Hurghada, and the island’s shallow waters are perfect for snorkelling.
For those keen to explore Egypt’s renowned sites, day trips from Hurghada to Luxor and Cairo are available. However, an alternative option is the ‘Mini Egypt Park’, a unique model village showcasing miniature versions of Egypt’s iconic landmarks, including the pyramids.
Additionally, the Hurghada Grand Aquarium, one of Africa’s largest, offers a glimpse into the Red Sea’s marine life, housing rare species such as tiger sharks and eagle rays.
According to Skyscanner, flights from Gatwick to Hurghada in February start from around £75 one way, excluding seat allocation or baggage allowance.
And starting in March, you can fly direct from Bristol for £100.
