Prince Albert II of Monaco attended a Champions League football match without his wife Princess Charlene on Tuesday night, as he watched AS Monaco face off against Aston Villa.

The princess’s absence was notable as her husband joined a distinguished crowd that included Prince William.

The two princes found themselves on opposing sides of the sporting clash, with Albert supporting his home team AS Monaco as the club’s patron.

Meanwhile, Prince William, 42, backed his beloved Aston Villa.

The royal pair did not pose for photographs together during the evening’s sporting event.

The Prince of Wales appeared nervous as he watched Villa lose in the prestigious European competition.

The match took place at Monaco’s home ground, with both royal figures in attendance supporting their respective sides.

The fixture marked a significant defeat for Aston Villa in the Birmingham based team’s first meeting against the Monégasque side.

The twins represent the next generation of Monaco’s ruling family, with Prince Jacques being the heir apparent to the Monégasque throne.

Prince William also left his wife, Princess Kate, and their three children behind in the UK while he travelled to Monaco.

The future King’s eldest child, Prince George, is also a Villa supporter, but he spent the school night at home in Adelaide Cottage.
