Kia Canada has announced a recall of 7,404 Sorento SUVs from the 2024 and 2025 model years due to a potential software problem. The issue may cause the headlights and taillamps to shut off unexpectedly, potentially increasing the risk of a crash. The recall affects a further 74,469 vehicles in the United States.

Kia has stated that no collisions or injuries related to the defect have been reported in North America.

Sorentos covered by the safety campaign include all gas-driven models; plus, among the 2025-model-year SUVs, hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models.

According to Transport Canada recall notice 2025-011, the affected vehicles may experience a sudden loss of front and rear lighting due to a faulty body domain control unit, reducing both visibility and the ability to be seen. The company has confirmed authorized dealers will update the faulty components at no cost to vehicle owners.

Kia will begin notifying affected customers by mail. Owners can also verify if their vehicle is impacted by checking Kia Canada’s website or consulting Transport Canada’s online recall database. In the United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued recall campaign 25V-006 for the same problem. The internal company code for the recall in both countries is RC213.
