Inigo Calderon has confessed that Bristol Rovers could still do business this transfer window but maintained his previous stance that the club will only add to their squad if they can bring in players better than their current options.
Rovers have signed one player this window, bringing in experienced midfielder Romaine Sawyers in on a deal until the end of the season following the expiry of his short-term deal at AFC Wimbledon.
They have also sanctioned loan exits for Bryant Bilongo and Luke McCormick to Harrogate Town and Forest Green Rovers respectively while loanees Jake Garrett and Michael Forbes returned to their parent clubs Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United.
It is understood that bringing in a centre-back remains a priority for the Gas if possible while they are also monitoring the possibility of bringing in a striker following Promise Omochere’s injury but it isn’t a prime concern.
Asked for the latest on potential business ahead of Rovers’ trip to Wigan Athletic this weekend, Calderon said: “Well there a few things that [are] maybe. But January is so difficult. I would say the last week is really difficult because you cannot get a great deal. Never. It’s a player that hasn’t been playing or it’s a bit of a risky one. So it’s not easy.
“I say to the club and they know, we are on the same page, it has to be someone that’s gonna make us better. Just to bring [in] players because it’s the transfer window, that’s not going to be the case. I’m happy with what we have. If someone can help to make us better, it will be more than welcome. If not, we will stay with the same ones.”

Regardless of the managerial change made in late December, the Gas were never expected to conduct significant business following their major squad overhaul in the summer that saw 16 new players signed.
Director of football George Friend admitted last month at Calderon’s official unveiling that January would be a month for squad “tweaks” as opposed to significant changes.
Rovers and other English clubs still have well over a week until the window shuts with the deadline set for 11pm GMT on Monday, February 3.
