The Maple Leafs will be without winger Max Pacioretty until at least next week.
Prior to Wednesday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Leafs moved the veteran to injured reserve, retroactive to Jan. 18 when he took a puck in the head in Montreal off the stick of teammate Auston Matthews.
To fill the veteran winger’s roster spot, the Leafs called up 22-year-old forward Jacob Quillan from the Marlies, who has 15 points in 35 games.
Pacioretty missed Monday’s game against Tampa Bay and was not going to play against the Blue Jackets, head coach Craig Berube said on Monday.
It’s the 36-year-old’s second stint on IR after joining the Leafs in the off-season. He missed nine games with a lower-body injury into early December. In 32 games, he has five goals and seven assists.
Winger Connor Dewar (upper body) is also out Wednesday, while centre John Tavares (lower body) remains on IR.
