The BBC’s hit murder-mystery series sees the Traitors and Faithful vie for victory, with up to £120,000 as the top prize. Every night the Faithful have a chance to banish one of the group in the hope of finding a Traitor.

Journalist Marina Hyde has now advised against portraying oneself as overly smart to avoid an early exit. This advice follows the departure of 34-year-old communications director Yin from Berkshire, who was the first to be booted off this year after claiming to be a behaviour expert.

On The Rest Is Entertainment podcast, Marina said: “Don’t make your character ‘I am very intelligent’ so that when you get in the castle…what about that one girl, she wouldn’t stop going on about how she was a behavioural expert? Honestly, almost the last thing she said to a bunch of the contestants of the group was ‘I’m not going to sleep tonight because I’ve not built up enough social capital’.”

She added, “Bye, bye Yin. Duly, she was eliminated because she had made her sole character note ‘I am extremely clever and I’m very good at understanding and manipulating human behaviour.”

Yin, who has a PhD in communication, told the BBC after the show that she could tell a lot about her fellow contestants by what they were wearing, reports the Mirror.

Yin stated: “The way you dress and even your portrait in the breakfast room, that is more signal than what they’re saying and how you’re behaving. You can project whatever you want through words but the outfit and even hair and makeup from top to bottom is your curation.”

Marina also expressed her opinion after the first episode of the recent series aired. She questioned Charlotte’s decision to adopt a Welsh accent in order to appear more “trustworthy”.

Marina noted: “You’ve got to do a Welsh accent for the entire duration of your time. Daniel Day-Lewis has stayed in method acting roles for less time than that. Why would you handicap yourself like that?”

Charlotte, however, was later recruited as a Traitor later in in the series. Presently, she is the bookies’ favourite to claim the cash prize, as per CasinoScout.

Charlotte is now 3/1 to win the show, taking the lead from fellow Traitor Minah. While Jake appears to be the Faithful most likely to win – unless he is “murdered”.

The Traitors returns on BBC One and BBC iPlayer tonight at 9pm. The final episode will air on Friday, January 24.
