Preparations for this year’s Twelfth of July celebrations are already underway as the list of venues is confirmed.

Some 20 locations across Northern Ireland are set to welcome large crowds who traditionally turn out to watch the annual spectacle.

Other places around the UK, including Southport and Liverpool, will also host events to celebrate the anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne later this year.

DUP MP Carla Lockhart has shared details on social media.

“Saturday 12th July,” she posted on Facebook.

“What can I say … you have to plan ahead.”

Orange Order demonstrations will take place in Belfast and Ballymena with parades in Coleraine and Lisburn.

Keady, Glengormley, Kesh and Rasharkin are also among the 18 cities, towns and villages to host events in addition to Dundonald, Dundrum and Dromara.

Maghera, Kilkeel, Coagh, Cullybackey and Carnlough will also welcome lodges and accompanying flute bands with Sixmilecross and Augher also on the list.

There will also be an Independent Orange Order parade in Portglenone.

Back in 2023, it was reported that the Orange Order was considering cutting the distance of the 2024 Belfast Twelfth parade and cancelling the gathering in ‘the field’ at Barnett Demesne on the outskirts of the city.

It came after recommendations that followed an internal report commissioned into the 2022 Twelfth which described it as “probably the worst for decades”.

The plans, however, were subsequently axed following opposition from Orange Order members.

Last summer saw tens of thousands of marchers and spectators take to the streets in all six counties as the annual ‘Orangefest’ took place at Belfast City Hall.

A line-up of international food market stalls, organised by Food NI and Taste of Ulster, attracted visitors into the grounds of the civic building where live cooking demonstrations got underway.

Circus and street entertainers performed street theatre and hosted musical workshops

The festival, established “to foster a peaceful and harmonious society by celebrating the rich and diverse cultures of Northern Ireland” has been running since 2017.

The celebrations have been televised to GB News viewers across the UK since BBC Northern Ireland decided to axe live Twelfth coverage almost four years ago.

Former First Minister and ex-DUP leader Dame Arlene Foster and former Coronation Street star Charlie Lawson have previously led the network’s coverage.

Figures showed that 73,000 people tuned into watch in 2022, however that figure dropped to 50,000 the following year.
