The largest cocaine seizure — 835 kilograms — in Toronto Police history is the result of Project Castillo, it was announced Tuesday, with four people from the GTA and two Mexican nationals facing multiple charges.
Warrants have also been issued for two more Mexican nationals and a man from Niagara Falls.
The seized drugs have a street value of $83 million. Police say the drugs came from Mexico and were transported through the U.S. before entering Canada.
The extensive joint forces investigation into drug importation and trafficking in the GTA began in August 2024. The probe was led by the Toronto Police Service Drug Squad – Major Projects, with assistance from York Regional Police, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), and the RCMP Windsor Border Integrity Unit.
“Seizing 835 kilograms of cocaine — the largest cocaine seizure in TPS history — is about more than numbers, it’s about saving lives and making our communities safer,” Chief Myron Demkiw said in a statement.
“Taking these drugs off our streets prevents violence, protects lives, and dismantles dangerous criminal networks. This impact is only possible through the dedication of our members and the invaluable collaboration of our partners.”
