The PSNI have condemned “reckless speeding” after a driver was caught doing 103mph on the motorway.

The driver was detected by armed police officers and has been reported to the Public Prosecution Service.

In a post on the Police Antrim and Newtownabbey X account, a spokesperson urged people to “drive responsibly”.

“Armed response officers recently detected a motorist traveling at a shocking 103 mph on the motorway,” the post read.

“Such reckless speeding endangers everyone on the road. This individual was reported to the Public Prosecution Service.

“Speed limits are there to save lives. Drive responsibly.”

PSNI figures released earlier this month revealed that 68 lives, including one child, were lost on Northern Ireland’s roads in 2024.

The previous year saw 71 deaths, while 2022 saw 55 deaths.

According to the figures 738 people were seriously injured on roads here last year, up from 708 in 2023.

Speaking at the time, PSNI Chief Superintendent Sam Donaldson said that 2024 had been another year “with too many fatal road traffic collisions”.

He added: “Reducing deaths and serious injury on our roads is a priority for the Police Service of Northern Ireland and we appeal to all road users to learn about the steps they can take to keep themselves and others safe on our roads.
