Piers Morgan made a sensational return to ITV, joining forces with Scottish icon Lorraine Kelly. The duo delved into discussions about Donald Trump as he assumed the presidential mantle for the second time.
The 59-year-old newsreader had previously been a familiar face on Good Morning Britain until he dramatically left the set and did not come back following an intense argument concerning Meghan Markle that unfolded live on-air.
On Tuesday (January 21), Piers surprised viewers by appearing on ITV with Lorraine, where they engaged in a candid conversation about their television careers and Donald’s inauguration.
During their chat, they touched upon the new president’s son Barron, whom he shares with First Lady Melania Trump.
Barron had suggested his father shift his presidential campaign focus to YouTube rather than traditional TV. Piers pointed out that this strategy was “pivotal” for Donald’s electoral success, reports the Daily Record.
The broadcaster praised Donald’s son, telling Lorraine about Barron’s early intervention to recommend his dad conquer the digital realm over television networks, massively helped to secure his victory.
Discussing Barron’s influence, Piers shared how the young Trump had pushed him towards embracing YouTube over conventional broadcasting methods.
Reflecting on Barron’s insight, Piers remarked: “He knew, rather like my sons, who have told me ‘Dad, you old dinosaur, get off TV. No one my age is watching TV,’ which they are not.
“But they are watching it through the prism of Youtube, so there’s a future Lorraine, for us. For us old TV dinosaurs.” He then turned the conversation towards his own television future, as well as Lorraine’s.
Piers commented: “The future is not going to be the same way that we in our generation, you know, we just flicked on network telly and watched it… the network bosses here won’t like me saying that… but get with the programme.”
Expanding on this point, he added: “Actually young people watch this kind of content in a different way.” Lorraine, nodding in agreement, responded: “They do agreed,” yet she emphasised: “They’re still watching the content they’re just watching it in a different way.”
Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV1, from 9am.
