Novak Djokovic roared in the direction of Andy Murray after his stunning victory over Carlos Alcaraz at the Australian Open late into the night in Melbourne.

Matches between the two have been blockbuster affairs every time and this time didn’t disappoint either.

There was barely anything separating the pair early on, but Djokovic appeared to be struggling with a niggling injury towards the end of the first set and Alcaraz took full advantage.

Djokovic managed to respond immediately with an impressive second set to level up the match.

Both players managed to find another gear to put on a show in the third set with some outstanding winners getting the crowd off their seats.

Djokovic won the third with a devastating forehand winner, sending a kiss into the crowd.

Alcaraz got off to the worst start possible in the fourth by going down a break and, despite coming close on several occasions, he was unable to break back as Djokovic served out for the match to reach another Australian Open semi-final.

Djokovic let out a huge roar after his victory was secured, looking in the direction of his coach Murray.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion then walked over to embrace his former rival.

It’s the 12th time Djokovic has managed to reach the semi-final stage of the Australian Open and he’ll face Alexander Zverev for a spot in this weekend’s final.

And the 37-year-old was hesitant to reveal too much information about the injury he was carrying against Alcaraz.

“Since I’m still in the tournament, I obviously don’t want to reveal too much,” Djokovic said.

“The medication started to kick in and it helped, no doubt about it. I had to take another dose – I mean this sounds awful that I had to take another one – but I had to.

“If I had lost that second set, I don’t know if I would have continued playing but I felt better and better.

“I managed to play a great couple of games to close out the second set and then I saw Carlos was hesitant from the back of the court and I took my chances.

“Then I started to feel better, started to move better and it didn’t bother me or create any hinderance at the end of the match.

“When the medication starts to wear off, I will see what the reality is tomorrow morning. Right now, I will just try to be in the moment and enjoy this victory.”
