Not only are air fryer poached eggs with the ultimate runny yolk easy to whip up, but you can also prepare several at once, saving you from being tied to a hot stove.
The air fryer has gained a reputation for its ability to cook an extensive array of foods from crispy chips to fluffy cakes, this beloved kitchen gadget does it all. Its fans are particularly keen on the health benefits it offers, as it allows for cooking with less oil and fat compared to traditional frying or roasting methods.
Yet, there’s one breakfast and snack classic that might not have crossed your mind to try in this handy device. Poached eggs, notorious for their difficulty to nail the perfect consistency, are a favourite for many who crave that silky runny yolk.
However, achieving this culinary delight can be frustratingly difficult. A slight misstep in water temperature, removing the egg too early, or leaving it in just half a minute too long can result in a disappointing undercooked mess or an unappealing overcooked yolk.
But now, there’s a “new and amazing” method to master the tricky poached egg using none other than the air fryer. Procook.co.uk shared the secret to obtaining that elusive runny centre, reports the Mirror.
“Using your air fryer to poach eggs can be a fantastic alternative that yields tasty results,” they explained. “You no longer need to stand over the stove and poach the eggs one after another.”
Plus, you only need two ingredients and some water. Here’s how to effortlessly poach eggs using an air fryer.
Air fryer Poached Eggs (for four)
Ingredients
- 4 eggs
- A drizzle of olive oil for greasing ramekins
- 3 tbsp of hot water for each egg
Method
Start by warming your air fryer to 180C and give the ramekins a light coating with olive oil. Pour the hot water into each ramekin before cracking in an egg.
Place the ramekins into the air fryer basket. Let them cook for 6-8 minutes, depending on your preference for yolk consistency.
Once done, take the ramekins out of the basket and ease the eggs out with a rubber spatula.
And there you have it perfectly poached eggs ready to be savoured with smoked salmon on a bagel, atop avocado on crunchy sourdough, or simply seasoned with salt and pepper to taste.
