In a posting to its Facebook page, the department said crews responded to a fire in the community on Friday – the third in French River, south of Sudbury, during the week.
During what it called an “overhaul sweep” of the home, Lt. Lukas Woolridge “stumbled upon an unexpected yet beautiful surprise — a little pug, nestled safely in a basket of clothes amidst the chaos. Against all odds, Pugsy was unharmed. Shortly after, we had the joy of reuniting this courageous little guy with his owner.
“Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. It’s not just about protecting buildings — it’s about preserving lives, big or small, and offering hope during moments of hardship.”
The fire department said the week was “challenging” given the three house fires it responded to in a short period of time. “Through it all, we’ve been grateful for the strength and dedication of our team, ensuring every incident ended without injuries.”
Finding the little pug “brought a special moment that truly warmed our hearts …. We couldn’t be prouder of our team and the community we serve.
“Let this story serve as a reminder of resilience, hope, and the unwavering bond between people and their furry family members.”
Their efforts with the pug drew lots of praise.
“Excellent work by your crews,” Lively’s volunteer firefighters said on Facebook. “Even after an exhausting week, your instincts were still sharp. Great save.”
“Such a beautiful, heartwarming story,” Danielle Lafond wrote. >This is what life is all about. Thank you so much for sharing, but most of all, for caring.”
“There is always light amongst the darkness,” Caitland Nobbs added. “These are the moments that remind us of that.”
