Chris Kamara has revealed he has joined a choir as part of his ongoing journey to manage his apraxia condition.

The beloved broadcaster, 67, shared that singing is helping him rediscover his voice as he continues to battle the rare neurological disorder.

Kamara has joined a choir of Bradford City supporters for a new BBC series called Bantam of the Opera, combining his love of music with rehabilitation efforts.

He was forced to step away from his broadcasting career in 2022 after being diagnosed with speech apraxia, a rare neurological condition that affects the ability to speak.

The condition left him slurring his words, ending his 20-year tenure in front of the cameras, most notably on Sky Sports News where he worked alongside Jeff Stelling.

Apraxia impacts the body’s natural motor functions, and Kamara has since undergone intensive speech therapy in his efforts to return to television.

The former Sky Sports presenter went on to explain the therapeutic benefits: “But the truth of the matter is, you get more fluency in your voice when you sing so it’s a form of rehab when you’re trying to get your voice back. Singing helps me.”

The choir initiative is part of preparations for Bradford’s upcoming role as UK City of Culture in 2025.
