Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd was left with egg on his face as Liverpool beat Brentford 2-0 in their Premier League clash at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday.
The former Rangers star, speaking on Soccer Saturday, confidently expressed a belief that there wouldn’t be a goal as the match crept towards stoppage time at 0-0.
However, just minutes later, Darwin Nunez struck to give Liverpool the lead – with the Uruguay international then notching his second.
Liverpool weren’t at their best during the match in the capital, with Arne Slot’s side surprisingly flat.

Yet they were still able to get the job done, with Nunez’s late brace propelling his side closer to the Premier League title.
The former Benfica star was left on the bench at first, with Slot choosing to go with a front three consisting of Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz.
Yet Nunez was thrown on with Liverpool chasing a goal and his heroics mean his team are, for now at least, seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool fans were delighted for Nunez. One user on X wrote: “WHEN WE NEED HIM MOST!!!!”
A second enthused: “2-nez!!! So happy for him too – huge.”
Another fan, who had previously criticised Nunez’s form this season, wrote: “DARWIN I’m sorry mate!!!!!!!!! Thank you.”

A fourth stated: “So where are the ‘Nunez out now’ guys? He needs time.”
And a fifth said: “All the haters give him credit now. Such an important goal.”
Nunez has been linked with a move away from Liverpool this month, having blown hot and cold during his time on Merseyside.

He was particularly poor last weekend as Liverpool cruised to victory over Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup.
But Slot, speaking before his late brace against Brentford, insisted he still has the qualities to be a huge success at the club.
“Darwin is a striker we have to use in a certain way and we were not able yet to bring the best out of him this season,” he admitted.

“Against Accrington Stanley again you saw he has a lot of pace but, unfortunately for him, most teams sit back a lot against us.
“If you look back at the goals he scored for us, I remember the one against [Aston] Villa when he went around the goalkeeper on a fast break, that is his main strength – he has other qualities as well – but we are still working on getting him in the best possible positions against a low block.
“That involves the right timings, the right crosses, the right position to start from and making the right run.”
