Famed television couple Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan are reportedly gearing up for a reunion, years after their last shared endeavour.
The duo, who married in 1986, have been familiar faces on British screens for many years, co-presenting This Morning and their own programme, Richard and Judy.
While Judy has largely retreated from the public eye, Richard remains a regular fixture on Good Morning Britain. However, it appears that the pair may be collaborating on a new venture.
The couple could soon be unveiling their own range of underwear, having trademarked their name for the sale of various items including fragrances, cosmetics, and other merchandise. The Intellectual Property Office made the application public this week.
The couple first trademarked ‘Richard and Judy’ in 2000 and re-applied in December of the previous year.
This decision may have been influenced by a notorious incident at the National Television Awards in 2000, when Judy inadvertently exposed her bra, reports the Express.
“Judy’s bra flash was perhaps one of the outstanding moments of their career and may have inspired the couple to consider underwear as an option – and clearly they still think so,” an insider told the Mirror. “But it’s not the only product they’ll be able to put their name on and they could make a mint.”
Richard and Judy initially met in 1982 while working on separate shows for Granada Television. At the time, both were married to other people.
Judy once candidly recounted her first impression of Richard to The Mirror, saying: “I thought he looked nice. Tall, handsome and all that but I thought the suit was a bit flash. Then, because he was a newbie, I was assigned the job of looking after him,”.
The couple eventually left their previous spouses and married four years later in Manchester. Richard has openly admitted to having had multiple affairs during his first marriage.
At the young age of 21, Richard married Lynda Hooley, but now acknowledges that it was a mistake and that he struggled with being faithful. In a revealing conversation with the Mirror about his infidelities during his six-year marriage, Richard disclosed: “Oh lots, numerous, probably in the space of about five years, about 10.”
He further explained: “Although the marriage had some very happy moments, there was a lot of negativity in it. I’m not using that as an excuse. It’s wrong to have affairs, but I was a very young man.”
Richard has since found happiness with Judy, and they share a daughter, Chloe. Recently, Chloe offered a glimpse into her personal life, discussing how she navigates co-parenting with her ex-husband James Haskell.
When asked about the longevity of her parents’ marriage, Chloe humorously responded: “The secret to them having such a long marriage is to not get divorced!”
She disclosed to Closer Magazine details about a couple’s long-term relationship, saying: “They’ve been together over 40 years and during that time there have been periods where they really struggled, but they kept going and stayed together. I don’t think it was ever bad enough for them to split.”
