Pictures have emerged showing the last public appearance of late actor Paul Danan. They were taken at Bristol Magistrates Court on November 4 last year, where he spoke about his mental health struggles and described having the “worst year ever”.
Danan, who starred in Hollyoaks, was due to stand trial for allegedly using his mobile phone while driving, but the case was adjourned until March. At the hearing, he expressed his frustration at the ongoing proceedings, stating: “This has gone on and on there is no evidence – I feel like I’ve done anything wrong.”
He also shared his struggles with mental health and revealed that he had suffered a cardiac arrest. He told the court: “I need representation. I suffer severely with mental health problems. I had the worst year ever. I had a cardiac arrest and received CPR.”
Danan was dressed in a light-green jumper, dark-blue coat, and blue tie for the court appearance and left in a car. At the time, he faced additional charges of speeding and driving without due care and attention.
The 46-year-old was pronounced dead at a property in Brislington on Wednesday afternoon (January 15). Emergency services were called to the scene at around 5.20pm but he could not be saved.
Avon and Somerset Police said his death is not being treated as suspicious. A file is being prepared for the coroner.
A statement released on Thursday from Independent Creative Management said: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the passing of Paul Danan at just 46 years old. Known for his television presence, exceptional talent, and unwavering kindness, Paul was a beacon of light to so many.
“His untimely departure will leave irreplaceable voids in the lives of all who knew him. During this difficult time, we kindly request respect and privacy for Paul’s family, friends, and colleagues.”
