Jessica Alba and her husband Cash Warren are calling it quits after 16 years of marriage.
In an Instagram post shared with her more than 20 million followers, the Dark Angel star said that the pair are moving into “a new chapter” of their lives.
“I’ve been on a journey of self realization and transformation for years — both as an individual and in partnership with Cash,” Alba wrote. “I’m proud of how we’ve grown as a couple and in our marriage over the last 20 years and it’s now time for us to embark on a new chapter of growth and evolution as individuals.”
Alba, 43, and Warren, 45, met back in 2004 when she was playing Sue Storm in Fantastic Four and he worked as an assistant to the film’s director Tim Story.
They wed in 2008 and share three children — Honor, 16, and Haven, 13, and son Hayes, 7 — whom they will continue to co-parent alongside one another.
“We are moving forward with love, kindness and respect for each other and will forever be family,” Alba said. “Our children remain our highest priority and we request privacy at this time.”
Alba hinted that there may have been problems in their marriage in a message shared to her Instagram on New Year’s Eve.
In her message that accompanied a carousel of images, she said 2024 was “filled with connection, growth, adventures, laughter, peace, sisterhood, transformation, rebirth, joy and so much love.”
Alba also referenced the Year of the Snake, which begins later this month and runs into 2026.
“The Year of the Snake teaches us profound self-improvement, encouraging growth from within and expanding our consciousness. It reminds us that becoming a better version of ourselves allows for greater flexibility, shedding rigidity, and embracing transformation,” she wrote.
After TMZ first reported they were headed for divorce on Jan. 9, a source told PEOPLE that the two were still “friends and all about the kids.”
“If they’re filing for divorce, it’s not because of some hateful drama. They still look happy together,” the insider said. “Jess has mentioned over the years though that it’s hard to keep the spark.”
Back in 2021, Alba candidly opened up about their struggles throughout their marriage.
“It’s all rosy for 2 1/2 years,” Alba said during an interview on Katherine Schwarzenegger’s Instagram show, Before, During and After Baby. “But then after that, you become roommates … You’re just going through the motions.”
But last May, Alba marked the 20-year anniversary of when they first met, saying she was “proud of us for making it this far.”
“16 years of marriage, 20 years together and forever to go…” she wrote on Instagram. “I’m proud of us for making it this far. There is no real set of rules or guidance that can ever prepare you for what it means to commit to another person and choose to be family. Through thick and thin we have continually found our way back to each other and have chosen one another. Cheers to us, I love you.”
