Firefighters have dealt with a major blaze in Downpatrick.

Five fire appliances were sent to the incident as well as a water tanker from Warrenpoint Fire Station and a Support Command Unit.

The fire broke out around 10.30am where firefighters were called to reports of a garage on fire which spread to its adjacent detached bungalow on the Ballykeel Road.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to extinguish the fire.

The area was secured and gas cylinders were removed from the property. The cause of the fire was accidental ignition and the incident was dealt with by 1:55pm.
