Dozens of once popular baby names look set to die out thisyear with parents ditching them in favour of new choices. Experts at BabyCentre have revealed the list of what baby names p[arents are now registering – showing which are falling out of favour.
One of the biggest drops seen in 2024 was in the boy’s name Jaden, which fell 162 places in the ranking. It peaked in popularity in 2002. Royal names are also falling out of favour with Catherine, Anne, Phillip, Albert, and Edward each falling more than 100 places.
Catherine, the full name of Kate, Princess of Wales, fell 221 spots.
Jamie, which was a top-100 name from 1974 until 1996, is BabyCentre’stop-falling girl name of 2024, tumbling 320 spots. Other Millennial girl names going out of style are Erin, Kelsey, Chelsea, Kendra, and Alexis.
Taylor – which was a top-100 boy name from 1988 until 1997 – fell 199 spots.
Some nicknames used as formal names are fading into obscurity. Liv (short for Olivia, the No. 1 girl name for the past four years) is down 257 spots for girls, and Billy (short for William, just like Liam) is down 167 for boys. Other nickname-names on the outs include Katie for girls and Danny and Andy for boys.
