Finding a unique baby name that strikes the perfect balance between being distinctive and not too outlandish can be a challenge. In recent times, there’s been an uptick in parents opting for more unconventional names, though some have faced ridicule for choosing names deemed excessively quirky.

A self-proclaimed “baby name enthusiast,” @jaynevetter, has taken to social media to share a list of baby names she “despises,” sparking surprise among some users who found her criticism harsh. Some commenters urged her to “leave hater behaviour in 2024,” taken aback by her willingness to mock children’s names, yet she remained defiant.

Jayne began her video with a disclaimer: “As always, remember that my opinions are my own. If you named any of your children these names, it’s okay. They’re fine. As long as you like the name, that’s what matters. And if any of these are your name, just remember, you didn’t get to choose your name…”

She announced she would start with boys’ names, expressing her dislike for ‘Eddie’, which she finds grating to the ear. She also dismissed ‘Edgar, Edwin, Edward,’ stating she “can’t do it” with those names.

However, she conceded that ‘William’ was acceptable, finding it “not offensive”.

“Sorry, but I cannot do it when boys are named Ocean, or River – any body of water. Same goes for Lakelynn for a girl, I can’t do it,” she declared. Other names she dismissed included ‘Reign, Rayne, Rain,’ and “names that you would name your dog,” as she insisted “don’t do it”.

“Which will bring me to my hottest take of all, and that’s Cooper for a boy. Listen, it’s such a cute name, it’s the cutest dog name ever, ever, ever, ever, ever. If you have a dog named Cooper, love. I just don’t know if we need to be naming a little boy Cooper,” Jayne pondered.

Then she moved on to girls’ names, admitting she was “scared” of the backlash she might face for her opinions. She began with ‘Lydia,’ expressing her dislike for “like the way it flows or the way it sounds”. This led her to discuss the name ‘Ryleigh,’ and “any names that end in ‘leigh’.”

Jayne also gave a thumbs-down to “Any names that have excess A’s”, listing ‘Ariella, Ayla, Alaia’, and vented: “Some of them just look made up.”

“Okay, last name, and then I’m gonna go hide, is Nevaeh. I simply would rather name my daughter Heaven than Nevaeh. I’m sorry,” she finished, pleading with people not to “come for” her over her views.
