It turns out Torontonians don’t always like what they get under the Christmas tree.
The holiday season may be behind us but people are still heading to stores to return gifts that didn’t quite make the grade.
A survey from FedEx revealed one in six Canadians typically return holiday gifts each year — but which cities are guiltier of bringing back their unwanted presents?
The folks at CSB.ca analyzed Google search data between Dec. 25, 2024 and Jan. 12, 2025 and found Toronto was No. 1 at hunting down information on gift returns, return policies and other related topics.
There were 67,740 searches tied to returns by people in Canada’s largest city.
In a very distant second, with a mere 24,360 searches was Calgary, followed by Vancouver where 18,890 needed more details on how to return that sweater that didn’t fit and was in a ghastly colour.

Ottawa took fourth spot with 16,340 searches while Edmonton rounded out the Top 5 with 14,510 Googling for the information they needed.
People in Peel Region weren’t loving their gifts as Mississauga (13,930) and Brampton (12,690) combined searched for return information more than second-place Calgary.
Other Ontario cities that were unimpressed by their gift-givers were Hamiltonians with 8,270 searchers, receivers in Markham with 7,530 searches and Vaughan rounded out the Top 15 with 7,150.
