Royal watchers have spotted what appears to be another significant change to Meghan Markle’s engagement ring, as seen in the trailer for her new Netflix show “With Love, Meghan”.

Eagle-eyed fans noticed the centre stone of the duchess’s ring appears to have transformed from its original cushion shape to a square cut.

This marks the latest in a series of alterations to the ring, which Prince Harry first presented to Meghan in 2017.

“I don’t think the centre stone is the same,” one observer noted on social media. “The original was more cushion-shaped, and what she wears now is closer to emerald cut.”

The original ring featured a centre stone from Botswana flanked by two diamonds from Princess Diana’s collection, set in yellow gold – Meghan’s favourite metal.

In 2019, Prince Harry commissioned celebrity jeweller Lorraine Schwartz to redesign the ring, changing the plain gold band to a thinner micropavé style adorned with tiny diamonds.

“He’s the loveliest person ever. So romantic, so thoughtful,” Schwartz told author Omid Scobie in his book Finding Freedom.

The redesign coincided with Harry gifting Meghan an eternity ring, also created by Schwartz, which features the birthstones of Meghan, Harry and Archie hidden on its underside.

Royal fans took to social media platform X to discuss the apparent change, with one user asking: “Is that the fourth evolution of the ring?”

Another observer commented: “Looks like she’s changed the centre stone from a round diamond to the more expensive square cut.”

Speculation arose after viewers caught glimpses of the ring in the Netflix trailer, in which Meghan can be seen reaching for flowers with her ring clearly visible.

The apparent modification has sparked widespread discussion among royal watchers, who have been tracking the evolution of the duchess’s engagement ring since its debut.

The ring made headlines in 2023 when Meghan was spotted without it at several events, including the Invictus Games in Dusseldorf, with sources later confirming it was being repaired due to a loose stone.

According to jeweller Maxwell Stone of Steven Stone, the duchess’s engagement ring remains her most valuable piece, worth an estimated £120,000.

In the Netflix trailer alone, Stone estimates Meghan was wearing jewellery worth £337,226 in total.

This includes an £80,000 eternity ring with deep sentimental value, incorporating family birthstones.

Among her more modest pieces in the trailer was a pair of gold-plated knot earrings from Anine Bing, valued at approximately £265.
