Tennis fans have turned on Emma Raducanu after the Brit called for a medical timeout at a crucial stage of her win over Amanda Anisimova at the Australian Open.

Raducanu raced to a one-set lead with her American opponent punished for several unforced errors.

But the British No 2 got off to a sluggish start in the second set and lost her opening two service games.

The double break advantage put Anisimova in the driving set to force a deciding set.

But her momentum was lost when Raducanu took a medical time out while down 0-3.

Anisimova failed to get back on track with Raducanu winning four consecutive games to bring them level.

The 22-year-old completed her comeback in the second set with another break of serve to eventually secure the win.

But some viewers were left furious at the timing of Raducanu’s medical timeout in the second set.

One viewer fumed: “Raducanu should be investigated for cheating. How did she get an injury, how does the physio determine she has an issue?”

Another message simply read: “Emma Raducanu – cheater!”

A third wrote: “Raducanu is faking this s*** suddenly she feels bad when she is losing the 2nd Set 3-0.”

One other sarcastically said: “Solid gamesmanship from Raducanu taking that fake MTO down a double break, ties it up immediately following. Sure there was a real serious injury there!”

Another noted: “Three straight games for Raducanu after the MTO. Why is this allowed?”

It’s the first time Raducanu has made it to the third round of the Australian Open in her career.

But the British tennis star faces a difficult test to progress any further with Iga Swiatek up next.

Despite the odds being stacked against Raducanu, she’s looking forward to testing herself against the five-time Grand Slam champion.

“She is a top player, she’s been really consistent over the last quite a few years”, Raducanu said.

“So it’s going to be a match for me where I feel like I don’t really have much expectation externally.

“I think you always have the pressure that you put on yourself to perform to your best ability, which is not really going to change, but that’s every match.

“I’m looking forward to going out there and testing my game against the best, because, ultimately, you play tennis and you live for these matches. It’s going to be a great buzz of adrenaline.”
