Reality TV star Pete Wicks has candidly opened up about his relationship with Maura Higgins in an emotional interview on Paul Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast.

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant finally addressed months of speculation about his connection with the Love Island star and admitted that their relationship has changed.

Higgins and Wicks have been friends “at a distance” for six years but were recently rumoured to have progressed their relationship after being spotted on multiple dates.

During his stint on Strictly Come Dancing and her appearance on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, the pair publicly supported one another.

After discussing Wicks’ rise to fame on the ITV reality show The Only Way is Essex, Brunson noted: “I asked my mum what she wanted to know about Pete.

“The top thing she wanted to know and from other people – it is one of our most popular episodes here was with someone – I don’t know if you know her, her name is Maura Higgins…”

Oh, the name rings a bell,” Wicks played along before Brunson laughed and continued: “Okay, so she was on, extraordinary story, incredible person.

“When I asked her I said, ‘There is a whole lot of stuff being said but we can’t trust what is happening in terms of the media what they are saying, so you tell us what is the relationship with you and Pete’.

“So, I would like to extend that same opportunity to you and ask you, what is your relationship with Maura?”

Giving a coy smile and being careful as to what he shared, Wicks explained: “Maura and I have known each other for a long time, I say a long time about six years.

“We have the same sense of humour, she is super intelligent and I think you know that is sometimes something people don’trealise about Maura.

“She is incredibly witty and we have always been there for each other for kind of the past six years at a distance where we have always been friends. We have always kind of been there for each other and whatever else.”

Going on to reveal how their relationship has changed, he admitted: “It is different now, we spend more time together now than we did before and I think she is an incredible person.

“She was very supportive of me when I was at Strictly and vice versa when she was in the jungle. My relationship with her is that I think she is a great person and I hope that she would think that I am alright.”

Trying to probe further, Brunson asked: “Oh yeah, she thinks you are a great person, but the question is are you great together?”

“Wicks replied: “Oh, I see where we are going with this Paul, very very clever and nicely done. The thing with me and Maura is that like I said we have known each other for a long time.

“We have never not got on and we do spend more time together now than we did before. When people are around me and Maura it is quite fun because have got quite a lot of similarities in so many ways, so she is a great person to spend time with and we do spend time together.”

Sensing he wasn’t going to get much more from Wicks, Brunson simply stated: “Okay, out of respect I am going to leave it at that. I like that for you.”

Higgins previously joined Brunson for an episode of her own where she briefly touched on her relationship with Wicks.

Sharing the same sentiment, she said: “Our humour is the same. It’s like that sick, dark humour. It’s very abusive. We abuse each other.”
